2018 DI Global Competition
Posted on 06/23/2018

Destination Imagination is an international problem-solving and creativity competition. Teams of up to 7 students solve a challenge in one of six fields: engineering, technical, improvisational, fine arts, community service or scientific. Teams compete at the regional tournament and hopefully move on to the state tournament where they can earn the honor to move to the highest level of competition: Global Finals, which is held the last week of May every year at UTK. CCA has been honored to send teams to Global Finals since 2009. For school year 17-18, CCA had 15 DI teams, 9 of which made it to Global Finals (which no school in Tennessee has ever done before). These 9 teams and their accompanying adults represented CCA well at the competition.

Here are their standings from the tournament:

  • The Weakest Link (mostly 9th graders) finished 11th out of 64; that is the second highest placement for any CCA team.
  • The Backstage Crew (a team of 7 6th graders who had never done DI before) came in 15th out of 67 teams. That is excellent for a first year team.
  • The Amazons (a group of 9th grade girls) finished 18th out of 64.
  • GLAMET (a mixed bag of high school girls) finished 18th out of 50.
  • DI-75 (mostly 7th and 8th graders) finished 22nd out of 71.
  • The SS Legends (a group of 8th graders) finished 28th out of 71.
  • McElchunch (mostly seniors) finished 30th out of 69.
  • Uh-oh Spaghettios (mostly 9th & 10th graders) finished 45th out of 69.
  • Kazoo Kids (seventh grade girls) finished 52nd out of 76.
